Energy Cost Calculations

ASW's energy cost calculations programs take consumption and load data (from the appropriate simulation programs) and calculate energy costs given actual utility rates.

Our library contains several proprietary energy cost calculation programs.

  • The Utility Rate Analysis program calculates the monthly electric energy cost based on a specified rate structure, associated kWh and kW-demand costs, and electric-energy 24-hour profiles. This program uses the results obtained from the Central Plant Electric-Energy Modeling program, Building Systems — Electric Energy Modeling program or any of the other relevant simulation programs (e.g., Pump System, Cooling Tower, etc.).

  • The Load Factor and Time-of-Day Electric Cost program calculates the monthly electric cost based on the annual load factor of the facility and any given time-of-day utility rate. The building system electric energy simulation programs generate the baseline kW-demand profiles.

  • The Real Time Pricing (SCE's RTP-2 and RTP-2-I) program calculates the monthly electricity cost based on the weather temperature and associated assigned price per kWh. Building system electric energy simulation programs generate the base kW-demand profiles (weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays). Sometimes the kW-demand profiles can be obtained from the local utility (electronic or hardcopy) in the form of 15-minute kW demands.
